About Hooked On Dance

As a dynamic Head Dance Teacher at Hooked On Dance, Leigh-Anne Gorrie has a wealth of knowledge, passion and over 17 years of dedicated dance teaching experience. A highly respected figure in the dance community, Leigh-Anne holds prestigious certifications from both the AIDT (Association of International Dance Teachers) and the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) as well as a National Diploma in Dance from TUT (Tshwane University of Technology), a testament to her profound understanding of diverse dance methodologies and her unwavering commitment to excellence.

Leigh-Anne's journey in dance has been a multifaceted one, evolving from a dedicated student to a celebrated teacher, innovative choreographer and even an esteemed examiner.

This comprehensive background allows her to approach dance education with a unique perspective, understanding not only the technical intricacies but also the artistic expression and the rigorous demands of professional standards.

Her insights as an examiner provide invaluable guidance to students aspiring to higher levels, ensuring they are well prepared for any challenge.

Dance has the power to transform lives. It builds confidence in shy children, strength in growing teenagers, and community among adults who thought they'd left their dancing days behind. We believe that power belongs to everyone — regardless of age, background, or experience.

How it all started

One vision. One studio. Thousands of stories.

Leigh-Anne Gorrie founded Hooked On Dance in 2010 with a single vision: to create a dance studio in Randburg where every student feels seen, challenged, and celebrated.

From the very first class, the philosophy was simple: technique matters, but the person behind the technique matters more. We train dancers — but more than that, we raise confident, disciplined, creative human beings who happen to be brilliant at dancing.

What we stand for

Our three guiding values

Hooked On Dance community
Value 01

Community

Dance is better together. We are a family — students, parents, and teachers who celebrate each other's wins and support each other through challenges. Walk through our doors and you belong.

Dancers demonstrating excellence at Hooked On Dance
Value 02

Excellence

We hold our students to high standards because we know what they're capable of. From foundational technique to competition-level performance, we push for excellence in a way that inspires rather than intimidates.

Students smiling and enjoying dance class
Value 03

Joy

We never forget why we dance. Classes at Hooked On Dance are energetic, encouraging, and genuinely fun. If our students aren't smiling at some point in every class, we're doing something wrong.

Tap Classes

Tap Dancing has deep historical roots from its West African and Irish roots through to the living art form it is today. It is simultaneously a dance form and a percussion instrument, which means every performance is a live musical event — the sound cannot be faked or pre-recorded without betraying the whole point. The dancer's body is the band.

Modern Classes

Modern dance fundamentally changed what dance means — transforming it from pure entertainment into a serious art form capable of political commentary, psychological depth, and philosophical inquiry. Its influence is felt in everything from Broadway to music videos to Olympic gymnastics.
